I suppose if I got a modern brake, perhaps I could get a mounting bolt online that would go through the fork and accept a nut on the other end. I had to do this recently on another bike when I mounted a fork mount cable hanger. The bolt that came with it was not long enough and did not have a nut, but a 'sex bolt'.. yes that's what they really call them. A couple bucks at boltdepot.com and the problem was solved. I'll check into it a little more. I've had the bike since high school, and I was wanting to keep it period correct, but I've since abandonded that, because period correct, as it is, is a pretty sucky ride And yes, these brakes are more speed modulators than brakes
