Like everything to do with all-leather saddles, this is yet another point of controversy and debate. Do as Brooks says, or don't. YRMV.

FWIW I treat the underside of mine when I get them and maybe once every 3-5 years if I think about it. Tops get treated annually. I ride with fenders.

I have one old Wright's saddle that is around 35 years old that I have been riding pretty regularly since 1978.
