That doesn't sound much more ridiculous than someone claiming to be 'car-free' even though they rely on motor vehicles owned by someone else for much of their transportation needs... (ie, cabs, buses, etc...)
Almost as ridiculous as claiming to be car free because the significant other does all the family driving and shopping with their car; or the title is in the spouse's name.
