I used a drill to make holes in an old Ideale saddle. Then I read on the Internet that the drill was a bad idea. Anyhoo... the 4 holes were more than sufficient. I think my Velo Orange saddle has 3, which is plenty.
The laces took the squeak out of the Ideale and also removed the center sag.
You could probably do the same thing with the adjustment screw, but I'd be wary of creating holes around the rivets.
I didn't check the process on the one I linked to, that was just to give bragi and general idea of what we were discussing. FWIW Brooks sells some of their saddles pre-laced. The
B-17 Imperial comes with 16-18 holes on a side. I do agree that you really don't need that many and a leather punch is the preferred method of adding holes. I put 6 holes in the Wrights that I laced and used all of them. I suspect it will depend on the saddle and how much lacing it needs. I am going to be doing a
Brooks B-18 Lady here shortly. My wife has it on her Raleigh Colt but the sides flare and chafe.
