We have one on our tandem - pleased with it. An unforeseen advantage is that it deals with the "rolling to a halt at traffic lights in a gear far too high to restart" problem as you can shift standing still - this matters on a tandem. Also more tolerant of the requisite long cable runs. I've had lesser IGHs on solo bikes - it's hard to be sure but I think the friction loss is less on the Rohloff than the Shimano ones I've used elsewhere.
