If you're checking out Hetchins lugwork, check out the various "curvy stays" they did as well. If memory serves, it was originally to circumvent some restriction on "straight" stay race bikes, but then became quite the fashion statement.
I've heard that the Hetchins curly stays were intended as a brand identifier at a time when race bikes in UK were not allowed to have decals to preserve "amateur status".
