Not necessarily, but probably.
if you have to use a open end wrench, it is 15mm and specifically made thin for pedals and hub cone adjustments. If an allen wrench will fit in the end of the spindle, on Look it is an 8mm. Not sure for the Shimano products.

Good advice. Along with using one cycling shoe
