Disc brake Hub compatible with rim brake wheel?
So I broke a spoke on my <1 yr old 7.5 FX. Spoke breakage became a chronic issue with my Jamis Coda Elite until I sold it earlier this year. I want to get a strong rear wheel with 36 spokes (as I am 260#), but that doesn't break the bank.
The existing rear hub has 135 mm spacing. I find the Shimano XT hubs to be the best bang for the buck, but there doesn't seem to be a non-disc Shimano hub with 135 mm spacing in the XT or 105 range (Shimano FHM590 seems on the cheap side). Is there any problem having a rim brake wheel built with the disc-brake features on the hub? It seems like the available space is there, and that the disc brake features, although unused, will simply be along for the ride. If this is OK, any recommendations as to whether to use 6-bolt or 'centerloc' hubs for compatibility with potential future bikes?
