From the Great Plains to the Pacific, you can ride on nearly all Interstates - EXCEPT in cities.
With wide shoulders, Interstates are technically safe - although vehicles are travelling at high speeds.
Sometimes the shoulders have a lot of trash, metal, and broken glass.
Spot on when referring to I-15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Lots of traffic, too, but the commerical truck drivers seem to be a whole lot better than regular car traffic. Also, the California Highway Patrol is pretty annoying to bicyclists taking this route, while the Nevada HP is pretty accomodating - the NHP officer who stopped me gave me some good advise on where to get off when approching Las Vegas.
