I use strength training in the gym to focus on the glutes, hams and core as well as posture. My goal is to keep the muscles in balance.

Cycling is a complex sport and not easy to make general observations about its athletes. We are all very different requiring specific training routines on the bike and in the gym to improve and stay healthy. I have found that more riding improves my bike fitness and bike strength. The gym is a great place to work on limiters and imbalances. Generally, sprinters benefit from strength training.
A winter time cycling friend, Tom, recently did pretty good in Team Pursuit and Team Sprint during the USA Cycling Masters Track Nationals, 65+. Time for me to start implementing the training advice he has been giving me.
