Riding with hernia?

Is this a bad idea? I lost a bunch of weight and consequently developed severe sharp pains at random while at work wearing dress clothes and a belt, I'm assuming the main cause to be my belt hugging my injury alot closer due to loss of body fat. I've stopped riding for now and miss the crap out of it. I know this forum contains a whole lot of intellect and general wisdom (even some surgeons here?) so I would like to beg for your input on this topic.

I will have to pay about $15,000 out of pocket for the surgery, do not make hardly any/have money and am a real coward when it comes to a surgery of this nature but I realize it must be done at some point in order for me to function like a regular person.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
