Mike- It is definitely a Motobecane, possibly early to mid-eighties. The M on the fork crown is an indicator but that style of seatstay cap is identical to what I had on a Motobecane Sprint which was made with Vitus 888. As well, the rear dropout has the characteristic integrated style derailleur cable stop used by Motobecane. Perhaps someone with a catalogue can narrow the model down for you.
