I'm following this discussion closely as I am in the process of building an old roadie into a moustache ride. I have an old Miyata 1000 touring bike with drops that flare out. It's comfortable. I have yet to do a multi day tour with it though. I have (for 3 years) ridden a flat bar mnt bike for long rides/1000's commute miles etc... No more. It really put a strain on my wrist(thus the Miyata purchase). After riding both I wonder if your back (as well as hand) position are important. A mnt bike with barends gives you 2-3 hand position BUT your back is in almost the same slanted position. With drops you can really change the angle of your back. I think this is very important to comfort. I think the moustache bars keep your back at pretty much the same angle....no?? Charlie
PS: I still haven't bought a moustache bar. I have an ergo stem to get the moustache bar positioning right on. If anyone has a roadie size clamp moustache for sale let me know.
