Looking good is much more important than performing well. If you're performing like crap, you can just blame it on the equipment, or pretend like you're not trying (i.e. "recovery day"). Well, not necessarily...the other weekend a guy showed up to one of our rides with nothing less that a
hybrid bike and "el cheapo" platform pedals, runner's nike sneakers and a helmet ! Now, this was a very hilly (with some 10.5 % climbs) ride with a bunch of strong A riders; the guy, his equipment rather, not to put him down ,but looked like crap, we were concerned...but alas! the guys was strong as hell, he kept up with us as he was "always there", although not at the front, but we never had to wait for him for more than 30 seconds, by the end of the ride he started to get dropped but he made it. We were wondering what he could've done with the right equipment !
