Ive also seen some wild turkeys and a snapping turtle. Turkeys were about 25 ft away from the trail and the snapping turtle was inches away from my bike and my foot.
I did once get caught in the middle a herd. A bit fewer than 15. At night on Mulholland Highway just west of the San Diego Freeway. The poor herd was split on both sides of the road.
It is interesting how much one can see while in or very close to a major city.
The last couple miles of any of the river bike paths (Los Angeles, San Gabriel...) can often have lots of wildlife, especially birds. Fairly early morning is best. Of course that is also best for wandering homeless. No problem for a 220lb plus prop. Can be for others.
