Regarding bearings. There are a lot of "bearings" on a bike, from bottom bracket to wheel to pedals. How do I know these are lubed enough? Is it self evident, where no sounds or "drag" is felt? Or is there some signs to look for? Particularly, how do I know pedal bearings are good enough? Is there a minimum number of times a good spin should get them rolling?

Thanks again,

Your questions are good but it would take lots of typing to answer which has already been done in the form of some great repair manuals. You will gain the answers to your questions and much more and have a handy reference for repairs. Once you have perused the pages of a repair manual I am sure you will have other questions that are much narrower in scope where this board will be of much more use to you. Here are some suggestions:

Bicycling Magazines Complete Guide to Maintenance and Repair
Park Tool Big Blue Book
Zinn and the art of bike maintenance

And to remove your crankarm extractor...there should be some wrench flats that you can use an appropriate sized or an adjustable wrench on to back it out of the crankarm.
