I was stuck with a 13-17 after breaking the 18 on a 6-speed Campy freewheel while climbing an absurdly steep hill in south Gibson's. 42-17 low gear...BRUTAL. I raced an old beater car up that same hill later, and won.

I think this experience was good for me, but I wouldn't recommend training this way.
