I am a steel person too... when I had the Landshark built I made sure it retained a very classic look like bikes of 40 years ago but with updated materials and components. I guess because I am old school and somewhat of a fuddy duddy I don't like the look of the newer bikes either... I really really hate the new steerer/head tubes on both road and mountain bikes. They are just ugly!
I know bike material is a very personal thing - many people prefer the smoothness/dampening of a carbon frame... again being old school, I like the occasional hum and buzz of steel reflecting the road. I feel more of a oneness with my bike and connected to the road. But the new bikes are flashy with their swoopy shaped and simple bike colors (white, white and red, black, black and blue...)... to each their own.
