There is a 23 mile rail-trail between Jim Thorpe and White Haven, PA. Goes through a river gorge. Most of it is pretty isolated. There are only a few ways in by vehicle. It's not uncommon to see rattlers sunning themselves right on the trail. I nearly ran over one last year. Never noticed it. My GF asked "Did you see that snake?" Went back and, sure enough, it was a young rattler. I have seen them on the trail a few other times as well.
