Bikes: Giant Defy with Dura Ace group, & Ksyrium SL's,Specialized Allez Shimano mixed/mashed,2011 Opus Sentiero,2008 Kona Jake the Snake,Custom built track/fixed,Stumpy Hartail,Kuwahara/ET bike.

I use these:

Nice balance, I use the clip less side exclusively, but have used the platform side a few time.
No their not full on "road" style pedal, but they keep my knees happy. I love my SPD's/MTB shoes Shimano Carbon Pro.
They're stiffer than most SPD sl's Shimano has to offer south of $300.
Having tried Look KEOS(2 pairs), & not liking walking around off my bike with SPD SL shoes, I went with SPD's. I use the SL's on my trainer.

Not trying to "sell" you on buying clip less but here's my experience.

I did the whole platform, & straps in my Fixie phase, & didn't enjoy rushing to try to get into the strap @ a stop light, & missing almost every time. Then reaching down with one hand to get my feet in.
Toe clips always end up on the bottom, scrape the road, & the leather straps would often drag too.

Once I made the switch to clip less I've never looked back.
I never fell in the learning phase, just adjust the locking mechanism to the weakest setting, & gradually increase it with your comfort level.

Just my $2.00 if you do decide you want to try clip less in the future.
