I really don't think you would have a problem on a road bike, but again ride anything and everything you can. Look at craigslist, co-ops, and LBS that sell used since you never know what you will find.
Since this is potentially your first road bike I would be wary about shopping online (no offense FlatSix 911). Try to ride bikes in multiple sizes so you have an idea of what feels right. Depending on the bike and manufacturer you may be between a 52 cm to 57 cm size.
