I disagree, I think it depends on the particular model of pedal you get, whether engaging on the wrong side is a problem. I've ridden double-sided SPD for many years. I recently got a one-side SPD/other side platform pedal (Forte Boulevard) for one of my bikes so I could use it for shorter casual rides with non-cycling shoes. These pedals are weighted, so like single-sided road pedals like Look or SPD-SL, they come to rest in a consistent orientation, a bit past vertical, clip side to the rear, so clipping back in is very easy. I haven't had any problems getting the wrong side and having to flip the pedal over to clip in. Using regular shoes with the other side should also be easy, but I have to train my foot to do the opposite motion since I am so used to flipping the pedal forward instead of back, so I made a few errors with regular shoes on my first couple rides. Still, flipping over to correct side isn't particularly difficult.
YMMV with other dual-option pedals. The only thing I dislike about these pedals so far is the lack of pedal flats (just hex bolt on the back) so they might get difficult to remove sometime down the line, I plan to break them loose periodically and regrease.
