I use platform pedals (MKS touring), but I do wear shoes. Can't keep my feet flat enough to avoid issues without the super hard soles. But my right foot toes out quite a bit and trying to set up clipless pedals with the right angle and float would take a lot of effort if I could do it at all. And if I don't put the foot where it wants to be, it shows up in knee pain. So this set up works for me and as a casual rider I don't think having my feet untethered makes enough of a difference to worry about.
Yes... I'm about to buy a pair of these for my Paramount. They are classy-looking. I liked riding with MTB clipless pedals but I didn't like doing anything else in clipless shoes. So it was a convenience thing for me.
