no, lotsa pedals available for less than $50, plenty of clearance shoes for the same price. you can get into a clipless setup for under $100 if you shop smart. you can find clearance priced mt bike shoes (perfectly acceptable and plenty around $30/pr) and low buck spd pedals for around 40 bucks, add in some tax or shipping and you're clipless for 75-80 bucks
