ANT+ can change frequencies if there's interference, so it's unlikely a problem with your phone, unless Garmin didn't implement that part of the standard. Based on the crappiest design imaginable for my wife's Garmin Forerunner, I wouldn't put it past them. I think my 8-year-old could design a better interface.
