Truth. But different flavors of people like different flavors of training. You like training by doing fun and competitive rides. I personally wouldn't be able to do that. I like training by having a rigid schedule and grinding away at night by myself on long and boring rides. You'd probably find my training torturous but I enjoy it. It's weird and cool how people can train so many different ways but all have the same end goal.
Agree with this, for the most part. I'll go on the occasional competitive ride but I'll enjoy a 3 hour solo ride just as much.
If a guy wants to overtrain to reach the top, so be it, but there is a cost. I did that for several other hobbies, the big one coming to mind is 9 Ball (Billiards) and the day I finally won the weekly tournament I entered for 3 years straight my interest dropped like a rock and I quit overnight. I hope that never happens in cycling.
