After riding a fair bit in my teens and twenties, I gave up cycling for twenty five years. During that time, I doubt I got out ten times. My wife fell in with some riders earlier in the year, and bought a road bike. She convinced me to do the same and I started riding in early August. I started with several 20-25 mile rides, and by the middle of last month I had worked up to a thirty, then a forty mile ride. Knowing that my riding season was soon to be coming to an end, I set a goal to do a half century before the cold weather set in for good. Today was the day. Sunny, 60 degrees, and no responsibilities at home.
Mission accomplished, in exactly three hours, for a average speed of 17 mph. I feel pretty good, and look forward to a full riding season next year, and my first century.
