As a heavier rider, the OPs question is of some interest as well, though the advice here so far pretty much aligns with what I would have guessed. I tend to be a bit ginger with my nice Campy and Superbe Pro freewheel wheel sets (6sp). Save any punishment for the modern hubs. Picked up what I believe to be a re-spaced tandem hub set by Specialized with a nice solid rear axle a while ago for a 40h wheel build...I hope that works out (when I get around to it).
