There is little reason to spend the big money for a legacy Campagnolo bottom bracket. In addition to Stronglight, you have Phil Wood (just buy the French thread cups), or even Velo-Orange who have a cartridge BB with French thread cups.

The comment about special crank pullers for Stronglight is only if you choose to use a Stronglight crank, and one of those from that older vintage period.

The Sheldon Brown site should answer your questions about matching. It isn't rocket science, so matching up isn't tough.

I strongly suggest going for the inexpensive cartridge units, as they are very, very low maintenance, and it simply doesn't really matter what name is on the spindle that cannot be seen!
