On my commuter I have a generic slightly wide padded seat with springs over which I put one of those generic gel covers. My road bike has a hard 1980s avocet seat over which I strapped TWO gel seat covers. I keep reading that I'm doing all sorts of wrong, but over the years since doing so I have had no soreness or chafing, and my back seems happier.
