The ride ended up being 100.05 miles, the first century ride I've done on a mountain bike. But because of my poor planning I ended up riding the last five miles or so in complete darkness. There was no moon, heavy tree cover, and no nearby roads or houses to provide any ambient light. It was just the hills to the left of me and the Potomac on the right. The deer were out in roving wild death-packs, and the goblins were coming toward me over the dead-smooth water of the river.

Or maybe that was just my imagination.
You're lucky you didn't run into Goatman.

There are some resident ghosts in the general vicinity. A pair of Indian maidens drowned upstream in the Potomac, and they have been sighted from time to time standing on the shoreline, weeping for God knows what. Maybe they get upset when the Redskins play like crap, as they've done most of the season.
