As pointed out earlier, you don't need the clamp to be incredibly tight. On most clamp type fittings you typically want a small gap, so that you can sure its clamping the tube. As long as the clamp faces are parallel and not touching, you're fine mechanically. Just tighten it down until its reasonably snug.
