On the MS bike tour that I rode back in September, there was a couple using giant adult-size scooters to do the route, pushing them with their feet. They made it through the 57k, but it just seems like way more work than it needs to be.
When I first spotted this thread, I thought it would be about those kids who ride their BMX bikes mostly out of the saddle because their legs are folded up so tightly when they do sit down.
They also make bikes specifically for jumping and similar acrobatics that don't have a seat- "trials bikes"-

Bicycles are very familiar to a lot of people and so there has been no end of thought going into trying to "improve" the bicycle. In many cases, you can dream up some such improvement and discover that it was done, and it was done a 100 years ago.
