Removing painted logos from bike parts

I have a seat post that I'm replacing, and the new seat post is a shiny silver, but I hate the big black logos that come on it. I'm assuming it's paint, but it's not something I can just scrape off easily, because I can't even feel the edges when I run my finger over it.

I've heard that acetone can be nasty stuff but works well at removing paint. Is it possible to remove the logos on chromed parts by scrubbing it with acetone on a toothbrush or something?

Also, sometimes I have the same issue with logos on other parts. Could I use the acetone method on something like this freewheel to remove the Shimano text on the biggest sprocket? (I'd be careful to keep the acetone away from the inside where it would attack the lubrication.)

I just want to de-Nascar these bikes. Y'know, remove all the extraneous logos.
