Thanks for all of your input, it is really helpful. The skid mark could be unrelated I guess. There is quite a bit of wear on that front tire and some rubber hanging off of it. The front rim is completely bent at this point. The LBS did say that it's possible that the rim was damaged in shipping and that could've started the whole thing. Thoughts on that?

I know he wasn't jumping the bike at the time of the accident, but if he was jumping the bike earlier would that have been enough to bend a rim? Is the bike not make for that? Thanks in advance, again.

This is all helpful as we determine next steps, if any.
