I have a pair of
Shimano platforms
on one bike and A530--SPD/platform pedals on another. The adapters have worked without problems, they could be the cheap way if you already have SPD pedals. The A530s are quite slick on the platform side in wet weather, the platform adapters are better in foul weather. I haven't had the platforms very long and have only used them on one short wet trip so I don't have a lot of time on them.
Problem Solvers
makes aluminum platforms for SPDs. They look like they would grip better wet than the A530 although any gloss finished pedal will probably be slippery.
