It all depends on climbing and the number of times you need to stop for lights or stop signs, and if you count actual average speed over the distance, or moving speed.
On my local 30 mile route my average moving speed can vary by several mph depending on how many lights I hit. It's amazing how a zero drops your average, even if you only measure moving speed.
So really, my guess is that unless he did this on a track, he actually was riding a lot faster than 14 mph for great amounts of his ride.
So, my hat if off to this fine fellow. I wonder how he was riding at 25, 35 and 45 years old. Has he always been a stud?
If memory serves me correctly, he set the hour record sometime last year in a velodrome.
