You don't need to copy and paste into another text editor and back to remove the formatting. Just select the whole quoted post in the Quick Reply window and hit the "Remove Format" button before using "Go Advanced" to edit your tags.

I think what you're seeing is from people applying more tags to the whole text in order to undo all the formatting before applying theirs.

Personally, variable-spaced fonts don't bother me a whole lot, and I'd suggest people chill out and deal with whatever they get when updating the thread.
