DC only used a + wire, ground was the frame.. Alternators use twin lead, wires . put rectifiers in the circuit.

I used Union headlights with DIY battery packs thats Verboten with SON E6 Halogen headlights .
Both use same kind of bulb. flange base 2.4w, 6v.
