Sufferfest + Kurt Rock and Roll setup = awesome!
Wow…I've been missing out!
Last year I picked up my first indoor trainer, a Kurt Rock and Roll. Even picked up the spinning front wheel rest as well.
I spent quite a bit of time on it last winter and ran spinnerval DVD's. While I got a good workout, I never really ran the Kurt to its fullest.
For some reason I decided to get a Sufferfest video and for my first one, I picked up Angels, the climber's workout.
I decided to "role play" a bit and actually push the bike as if I was really riding alone, turning the handlebars a bit, leaning into turns. I've read time and time again that many consider the Kurt front turntable to be gimmicky but I can say that if used properly…it's really not. The subtle turn of the handlebars and the lean of the the trainer really add a realism in form that forces you to use more core strength just like when on the road (not 100% to reality levels, but definitely better than a static setup)
Not only did the video whoop my ace (only got through 37 min before calling it quits), the interactive parts, "attacks" and difference in pace pushed me to limits I've never faced on the trainer.
That was a great workout!
It's no replacement for the real deal…but I actually had fun on my trainer for the first time.
