Kinlins are liked for economical AL rims. Take a look at the XC279 (also called BHS472) and the XR300. The 279 is their 'wide' rim and the 300 is a bit deeper but the more usual 20mm wide. Both are considered to be stronger than the A23 but not as beefy as the Deep V.
When Mavic moved their production from France, I read some people had complaints but that was apparently temporary. Since I have experience working on auto parts, I'm guessing once employees get enough experience adjusting/repairing the machines, the tolerances may become acceptable again.
