It's super easy. Luck into meeting a French girl whose better than you in every regard, coerce her into loving you, and then just follow her around.
I'm an agronomist and work on a bunch of little plant disease modeling grants at a research institute in Toulouse. It's not a living, just rent and food. It's all temporary, though. We'll be here for three years while she does her PhD. PBP 2015 is going
The only really "famous" climb I've done is Superbagnères, about 150km ride southwest. "Fuente Wuz Hurrrr" is written in chalk on the road near the summit, probably by some Brits. Made me laugh and gave me chills thinking about that. Barèges is another 50km to the west of that, that's where the Tourmalet and La Hourquette d'Ancizan are. There's already snow on those roads. That's a vicious, vicious day, though. My group does that every Summer as a camping trip. The Mediterranean is 150km east of us. Everything truly, truly awesome is either a train ride away, an overnight trip, or a very, very difficult rando-ish outing.
The big regional Pyrenees park is only 80km, and there are a zillion mini climbs there. But that's bad news, especially if you're ambitious. Very easy to blow up, go dead, and make the call of shame. $7-8 gas in Auzeville-Tolosane, so a 100-mile round trip gets the lady pretty pissed off!!
Anyway, I don't think glass is a big deal. Never thought of it before. But Jose Manuel Fuente sure as sh1t wasn't rocking the high density polyethylene!!
