As an FYI it's absolutely against the rules in a race to use a glass bottle. Not only is there a danger of bottle ejection from the cage but there's the whole "you might drop it while taking a chug from it" thing. It's such a no-no that it hasn't even occurred to me to question if a glass bottle is a good thing or not.

The reason why films showed riders chugging from big glassware is because it rarely happened. Usually it was a bottle that they picked up from ardent fans or from a hapless roadside store that had its shelves cleared by a passing peloton.

The solution is simple, of course, and others here have posted it - just pour into a normal plastic water bottle.
