Any tricks on how to replace a shift cable on 105 (5700 series) without re-taping?

My Bike is about 1.5 years old with just under 5K miles on it. Yesterday the rear shifting started hanging up. Today I cleaned and lubed the rear derailleur but that did not help. I noticed the cable looked a little funky , like a strand or two was broken.
I am trying to replace the cable, but would like to avoid having to remove the bar tape, etc. Are there any tricks to doing this on the 5700 series without removing the bar tape/housing? It seems like it would be close to impossible to push the old cable out through the housing, but I thought I would check at least.

Thanks - John
