kroozer, Generally an idea sparks a build plan for me, and then I gather what I need. A bit of a disclaimer is due...I generally build with a Cannondale frame set and Ultegra or D-A groups so I suppose frame and parts are already selected.

There have been exceptions. Following my knee injury I stripped one Ultegra build and rebuilt it with a full 105 triple drivetrain because the color more closely matched the frame's color and I replaced the integrated shifters with DT shifters. The latest was a bike I bought for the wheelset to use on the current project bike that was so nice that it deserved it's own rebuild.
