Correct. Early in a production run with new extrusion dies the weight will be at the low end of spec. After the die becomes worn, the wall thickness will increase and the weight will rise for later production. Finally when the upper spec limit is reached, the die will be reworked or replaced.
You sound like you have a handle on the technical side of things. I'm interested in the details of how a carbon rim is extruded.
