Be sure to remove the washers behind the crank bolts before using any puller.

Once the crank arms are off you will need a Park BB-22 or similar to remove the Octalink bottom bracket on your bike, no matter if it's a 6500 or 5500. Remember the drive-side cartridge is left-hand threaded and removes clockwise.
Thanks for the detailed info, the crank is a TruVativ Elita SL, and the BB is TruVativ GIGA pipe SL. From my research it sounds like the last step you gave would be the method of removing my current crank. I would have to purchase a couple of those tools but I know they are inexpensive.
