I use 2 old upper bearing cups, one as the guide and the other to lock it in place. But I cheat, I use my reciprocating saw instead of the hacksaw, hold it lightly against the bearing cup and let the weight of the saw do the work. Nice clean square cuts every time, a little dress up with the wire wheel and you're good to go.
