I've been the recipient of several screaming tirades, had my personal belongings ransacked by an irate motorist looking for my ID, reported a number of motorists to law enforcement, been swerved at on several occasions, tailgated, shot at (pellet gun), yelled at, and seen more unsafe and asinine passing maneuvers than I care to remember.
Wow, maybe my area is better, but I've had only one irate motorist who was upset that he couldn't pass me on the shoulder to turn right at a red light. I think the style of riding has a lot to do with motorists' opinions. I do my best to share the road, e.g. moving to the right when safe, signaling turns, stopping at red lights, etc.
