There's always been tension between those who live on (or in) the way, and those who travel past between home and work. You'd get the same backlash if they proposed eliminating parking to make the two lane road to foru.
OMG, twice as many cars belching smoke, and noise through our nice quiet neighborhood. How can anyone sleep through the noise? What about our children that will have to run this gauntlet to get to school?, and so on.
It's a classic NIMBY conflict between those passing through and trying to get home, and those who live on the way.
But it is kind of funny when someone is attacking bikes and defending cars in a NIMBY way considering the relative damage done by each means of transportation. What next, a vigorous defense of putting a new airport in next door?
